Through our development programs, we support Victorian writers and producers to script high-quality stories from across our regions and cities and from diverse perspectives and origins, for cinema, television, online and virtual reality.
We’re here for first-time screenwriters, seasoned creators and anyone who is ready to turn their ideas into a screen experience that will entertain, engage and excite.
Originate Genre is a dynamic initiative designed to support and amplify the wealth of live-action genre feature film storytellers in Victoria, with a focus on the development of the following genres: Action / Comedy / Fantasy / Horror / Romcom / Science-Fiction / Thriller. The two-stage development program will elevate projects from early-stage concept to market-ready screenplays.
In Stage 1, VicScreen will present a series of online screenwriting seminars with a focus on genre storytelling, presented over four weeks.
In Stage 2, eight successful applicants' projects will be selected to take part in a six-month intensive Writers’ Lab, comprised of group, peer-to-peer, and one-on-one development sessions online and in-person in Melbourne.
To apply for Stage 2, applicants must have registered and attended the Stage 1 Writers’ Seminars and meet the eligibility requirements listed in the guidelines.
Register for the webinars here. Registrations close 12pm, 27 March 2025.
Recordings of the Writers' Seminars will be available to stream for a short time after each webinar - details will be sent to registered participants.
