Through our development programs, we support Victorian writers and producers to script high-quality stories from across our regions and cities and from diverse perspectives and origins, for cinema, television, online and virtual reality.
We’re here for first-time screenwriters, seasoned creators and anyone who is ready to turn their ideas into a screen experience that will entertain, engage and excite.

Originate Comedy
Originate Comedy is a dynamic development incubator designed to support and amplify the wealth of comedy storytellers in Victoria. The multi-stage program spanning five-months will elevate four projects from early concept to performance ready pilot scripts culminating in a live reading event at the 2027 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Development On Demand
For writers and producers with strong, vivid and distinct ideas.
The Development On Demand program supports writers and producers to develop narrative fiction or documentary projects, including VR for any release platform, including cinema, television, and online.
As of 24/08/2026, there has been an amendment to “What can you receive funding for?” section of the guidelines.
As of 08/09/2026, there has been an amendment to the ‘Cultural Benefits’ Assessment Criteria section of the guidelines.
