Film Victoria congratulates the Victorian nominees in the 5th AACTA Awards presented by Presto.
Four of the six most-nominated films in this year’s Awards are Film Victoria supported projects. The outstanding cinematic feature The Dressmaker leads the charge with an impressive 12 nominations, including Best Film and Best Direction by Jocelyn Moorhouse.
The feature, starring Kate Winslet alongside local talents Judy Davis, Hugo Weaving and Liam Hemsworth, has dominated the local box office, earning over $11 million since its recent release on 29 October.
It faces tough competition for Best Direction, up against Holding the Man (directed by Neil Armfield) which had sold-out screenings during the 2015 Melbourne International Film Festival; and Paper Planes (directed by Robert Connolly), which grossed $9.61 million at the Australian box office and sparked a comeback for family features on the big screen.
Other feature nominees include Oddball (Best Cinematography), Cut Snake (Best Editing, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design), Kill Me Three Times (Best Original Screenplay) and Partisan (Best Sound, Best Original Music Score, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design).
Documentary series Uranium – Twisting the Dragon’s Tail secured two nominations including Best Direction in a Documentary while That Sugar Film is in the running for Best Feature Length Documentary award.
New television programs hitting the screen in 2015 have proven popular with audiences. The Secret River mini-series received five nominations including Best Telefeature or Mini-Series. Little Lunch was recognised with two nominations while Glitch secured two nominations including Best Television Drama Series.
Much loved audience favourites have been rewarded with a nomination nod, including the third series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Wentworth. In children’s programs, Nowhere Boys Series 2 is up for Best Children’s Television Series alongside The New Adventures of Figaro Pho.
