The Dressmaker now screening

Industry Updates  26 Oct 2015

Secrets, gossip and scandal are back in fashion! The highly anticipated adaptation of Australian author Rosalie Ham’s bestselling novel, The Dressmaker is in cinemas from Thursday 29 October.

Hollywood favourite Kate Winslet is joined by a stellar Australian cast in The Dressmaker, including Victoria’s Liam Hemsworth along with Judy Davis and Hugo Weaving. The support cast includes an impressive list of Australian talent including Sarah Snook, Rebecca Gibney, Shane Jacobson, Barry Otto and many more.

The Dressmaker is a bittersweet tragic-comedy about a glamorous young woman who returns, after many years in Europe, to her small home town in rural Australia in order to right some wrongs from the past. When Tilly (Winslet) comes home, she not only heals her ailing mother, but with her sewing machine, and haute couture style, transforms the women of the town in such a way that she gets sweet revenge on the men who did her wrong. She also falls unexpectedly in love, which leads to her greatest loss, and her most destructive deed.

Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and produced by Victoria’s own Sue Maslin, The Dressmaker was supported through our Assigned Production Investment (API) and Regional Locations Assistance Fund (RLAF). This visually stunning feature was filmed on location in Horsham and Mount Rothwell, with interior sets to match locations built at Docklands Studios Melbourne.
