The bulk of Apple Cider Vinegar was shot in Melbourne; known for its coffee culture, food scene, street art, and cultural diversity. “We wanted to really show Melbourne as an aspirational place,” says show creator, Samantha Strauss.

Over a hundred locations in Melbourne are captured in the series, from the Central Business District and suburbs, to parks, bars, and other “funky little corners”, as producer, Louise Gough puts it.

“This wasn't one of those shoots where we had a big soundstage and built everything,” says director Jeffrey Walker. “We explored every corner of Melbourne to tell this story. Aspects of the city’s character are also expressed in other ways. For instance, the costumes for the character Lucy reflect the vibe of Melbourne’s Fitzroy and St Kilda neighbourhoods. “It’s rockabilly, but also vintage cardigans and little dresses,” explains costume designer Cappi Ireland. “It's a very Melbourne aesthetic.”

The crew also ventured outside the city, so audiences will be able to see beyond the city to the state's more scenic spots as well. Look out for the natural beauty of Yarra Valley, Dandenong Ranges, and Mornington Peninsula.
