The Australian International Documentary Conference will return to Melbourne in 2017 for its 30-year anniversary, with hosting rights secured by the Victorian Government through Film Victoria.
Film Victoria CEO Jenni Tosi announced the funding today saying the decision would see the continued partnership between AIDC, Film Victoria and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). ACMI has been confirmed as the return venue for next year’s milestone conference, scheduled for 5-8 March 2017.
The announcement was made at the official opening of AIDC 2016, which returns the conference to Melbourne for the first time in 10 years.
As a key event in the Asia-Pacific region for the factual sector, the AIDC event attracts over 500 Australian and international delegates from across the factual film, television and digital media industries with a program of masterclasses, pitching opportunities, panel discussions and guest speakers to help the industry connect with new markets and new ways of doing business.
Established in 1987, AIDC has grown from a local biennial conference into a significant annual event on the international documentary calendar. Under new CEO and Conference Director Britt Arthur, the AIDC continues to extend its reach into all areas of factual screen content with an inclusive program and a host of international guest speakers.
Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said "The Victorian government is pleased to see another major screen event secured for Melbourne. This announcement is an example of Victorian government creative agencies joining forces to create more opportunities for likeminded practitioners to meet, collaborate and shape the future of Victoria’s creative industries.”
Film Victoria CEO Jenni Tosi said “We’re delighted AIDC will again take place in Melbourne next year as it celebrates its 30th year. Film Victoria has always been a strong supporter of AIDC and we look forward to its continuing success under the guidance of CEO Britt Arthur and the AIDC Board.
AIDC CEO and Conference Director Britt Arthur said, “We couldn't be more excited about partnering with Film Victoria and ACMI to celebrate the AIDC's 30th anniversary. As the national centre for screen culture, ACMI is the perfect venue to host what will be a very special event for AIDC and the Australian factual sector. We can't wait to start working on it with them.”
ACMI CEO Katrina Sedgwick said "ACMI is delighted to continue to partner with Film Victoria and AIDC to again host this dynamic industry event in 2017. It’s been wonderful this year and we’re excited about deepening our collaboration to deliver on our commitment to support industry and to celebrate the rapidly evolving and truly dynamic world of documentary across its myriad forms.”
