Australia’s longest-running short film event, St Kilda Film Festival has received renewed funding support from the Victorian Government.
Film Victoria approved a further two years of funding which will see the 10 day celebration of local film talent supported until 2018.
Film Victoria CEO, Jenni Tosi said “We’re delighted to provide our support for the St Kilda Film Festival which will see this iconic and longstanding event continue.”
“From shorts to music videos and a focus on early career screen practitioners, this festival is a key driver in promoting the best of short film content to a broad audience across Victoria and showcases the talent and ingenuity of Australian and international filmmakers.”
The St Kilda Film Festival is produced by the City of Port Phillip and sees over 12,000 people engage with a program of events that celebrates local film talent, with a program of Australia’s top 100 short films as well as music videos, shorts by filmmakers under 21 and a professional development program for emerging filmmakers.
Victorian creative teams are always well represented with their films in the festival, whilst the travelling roadshow component provides access to regional Victorians allowing them to engage with a selection of the films screened.
Celebrating its 34th anniversary in 2017, the St Kilda Film Festival will continue to build on its strong industry reputation as a launchpad for early career filmmakers, tapping into film industry professionals and those looking for new business opportunities.
The festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and winning films from competition are eligible for consideration in the OSCARS® Short Film and Documentary Short Subject Awards.
City of Port Phillip Mayor, Cr Bernadene Voss welcomed the announcement:
“The St Kilda Film Festival is an essential platform for Australian filmmakers, bringing the industry and audiences together in the filmmaking hub of St Kilda.
