Ben Chessell’s debut feature film Sucker began shooting in Victoria in 2014, creating more than 100 jobs for Victorians and bringing exciting production activity to regional and rural areas including Maldon, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Guildford and Malmsbury.
Sucker was written by Chessell and Melbourne comedian Lawrence Leung, and is an adaptation of Leung’s award winning one-man stage play.
Sucker was produced by Robyn Kershaw (Bran Nue Dae) and Jason Byrne (The Last Days of Joe Blow).
The film stars prolific You-Tuber John Luc in his big screen debut, as well as acclaimed English character actor Timothy Spall (Mr Turner, Harry Potter).
Minister for Innovation Louise Asher announced that filming and post-production for Sucker would see more than $4.7 million spent in Victoria.
