LOCAL GAMES PRACTITIONERS - apply now for a placement with YODO1

  14 Mar 2019

Upskilling local screen practitioners to be accomplished, global players is a key focus for Film Victoria. It’s why we’re the only state funding agency in Australia with an ongoing placements program, and why we continue to create opportunities that boost careers through tangible, hands-on, paid work.

In our latest collaboration, we’re looking for two early to mid-career Victorian screen practitioners from a games or marketing background who are interested in gaining global experience with leading mobile game publisher, Yodo1.

While one placement will be in Yodo1’s Design team, for which games-specific experience is required, the other is in their Business Development, Marketing, and Global Publishing team and is open to marketers from across the entire screen sector – including film and television.

The six-month placements provide an invaluable opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the Chinese games market – one of the world’s key games markets – with successful applicants to spend three months at Yodo1’s office in Beijing and three months at their newly established Melbourne office.

This is the second time Film Victoria has teamed up with Yodo1 to provide a Victorian practitioner with an international placement, with the first placement in 2018 leading to a permanent role for local games marketer, Meghan Betteridge. Meghan is now Marketing Manager at Yodo1’s Melbourne office and heads up their Australian presence.

Meghan Betteridge said: “The diversity of experience and opportunities that my placement with Yodo1 provided me is incredible. It opened up more avenues than I’d previously considered, and I’m so thrilled to now be working in this new and expansive role as both Marketing Manager and leading up the charge for our new and increasing Australian presence.”

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said: “Gaining a global perspective is key for our Victorian game designers and wider screen practitioners, and we’re so pleased to help make that a reality with our Yodo1 placements. After the success of Meghan’s placement last year, we are absolutely thrilled to join forces once again with Yodo1 to offer not one but two opportunities, providing career-changing opportunities for two Victorians in one of the world’s largest games markets”

For specific information about the Game Design Placement and the Business Development Placement, which have different eligibility requirements and profiles, visit the Film Victoria website.

Applications are now open until 11pm on Monday 22 April 2019, with the placements starting in June 2019.

Yodo1 supports, endorses and enacts equal opportunity employment and training. All qualified applicants for this placement will be provided with the same care and consideration, regardless of gender identity or expression, sex or sexual orientation, race, religion or homeland, or disability.
