$140,000 SUPPORTS MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN GAMES

Media Releases  8 Nov 2017

Film Victoria today announced support for seven Victorian games companies to provide placement opportunities for women through its Games Professional Placements program.

From programming, marketing, and 2D/3D animation, to UX and game design, the placements will see the selected practitioners gain valuable experience across a diverse range of positions within Melbourne’s leading game companies.

Film Victoria CEO, Jenni Tosi said: “These seven companies share our commitment to improving inclusiveness and gender balance within the games industry. The selected individuals will all be involved in working on exciting new projects which will enhance their skills base and enable them to secure ongoing employment in the future.

“We’ve seen a genuine increase in the number of women moving into and across the games sector in Victoria in recent years as a direct result of the programs Film Victoria provides, which is enormously encouraging. These additional opportunities will further strengthen this dynamic sector and continue to boost Victoria’s reputation as a great place to make games.”

Games Professional Placements grant recipients and available positions:

●       Samurai Punk - Programmer

●       Tin Man Games - Production and Marketing Assistant

●       Harmonious Games - Junior Programmer

●       Second Sight - UX and Game Designer

●       Wicked Witch Software - 3D Animator

●       PlaySide Studios - Games Artist

Film Victoria’s ongoing commitment to increase the number of women working in the games industry saw the 2017/18 program made specifically available to games companies who offered placement positions for a female practitioner.

The announcement comes in the same week that Film Victoria launched updated and expanded guidelines for their 2018 Women in Games and Women’s Professional and Leadership Development programs, increasing the number of opportunities available for women working professionally in the Victorian screen industry to enhance their skillsets.

Individual placement opportunities will be advertised as they are finalised through the companies.
