Filmmaker/Director - feature and short films, television and TVC's
Angie Black (she/they) is an award-winning Australian filmmaker/director. Their debut feature film, THE FIVE PROVOCATIONS (2018) premiered at The Melbourne Queer Film Festival and is distributed by Label Distribution. They are a recipient of the ‘Film Victoria’s Independent Filmmaker Fund’ for which they directed the award-winning short film BOWL ME OVER (2001) and has directed television commercials, both locally and abroad. Their extensive body of films explore innovative approaches to filmmaking, actively promote onscreen diversity and has screened at festivals around the globe, including Locarno, Frameline and Melbourne International Film Festivals.
Black has a PhD on performance approaches in film production, a MA in screenwriting and is a graduate of the Swinburne Film School. Black is currently a Senior Lecturer in Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), the University of Melbourne and specialises in filmmaking as practice-led research.
